I started my first real sales job in 1983 selling manufactured homes in St. Charles, Missouri. Early on, I stumbled onto a way of interacting with customers that helped them feel relaxed instead of guarded, and that changed everything for me. It led me to study human nature in the sales process and develop a system that creates referral and repeat business naturally. My clients never feel pressured, and the sale tends to happen in a way that feels easy and genuine.
For over 40 years, I’ve built my business without prospecting, cold calling, door knocking, networking, or relying on social media. My business has come almost entirely from referrals and repeat clients. My phone rings, and I answer it.
I’ve been married to my wife, LaDonna, for over 30 years. We have four grown children, three grandchildren, two horses, four barn cats, two African Grey birds, and Libby the dog. Life is full, and I’m grateful for it.
I was able to semi-retire in 2007 after successfully exiting my career in the manufactured housing business. But when the economy collapsed in 2008, I was hit hard financially and had to come out of early retirement. As I got back into real estate investing, I found myself constantly frustrated by dealing with agents who did not know how to truly serve people well. That frustration led me to get my real estate license in 2013.
Using the same principles I had developed in my first career, I did $10 million in volume my first year and have averaged nearly 100 transactions a year for more than 13 years.
Over time, I realized something important. Most agents do not fail because they are bad at real estate. They fail because no one taught them how to conduct business in a way that creates trust, referrals, and repeat clients. Too many agents focus only on getting the transaction done, and even when they close deals, those deals often end with no lasting relationship and no future business. It is not because they are careless. It is because they were never shown a better way.
That is why I created Just Ask Cort.
